Key takeaways
  • OKX US, run by OKX INC. (formerly OKCoin USA), holds licenses in 43 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, according to its licenses page updated 15 September 2026.
  • OKX INC. does not serve New York, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, Utah and Wyoming appear on neither list. The US terms add a withdrawal rule for Massachusetts residents.
  • OKX US offers spot trading and buy, sell and convert only. Futures, perpetuals and options stay on the global platform, which does not serve the United States.
  • Regular spot fees on OKX US are 0.20% maker and 0.35% taker, against 0.08% and 0.10% on global OKX.

Search "is OKX available in the US" and you get answers from 2023 saying no, and answers from 2025 saying yes. Both were true when they were written. The answer for 2026 sits on a single OKX page: the list of US licenses held by OKX INC., the American company that runs OKX US. Here is that list in full, what the US platform can and cannot do, and why it is not the okx.com most guides describe.

Which US states does OKX support?

OKX US is licensed in 43 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, 45 jurisdictions in total. The OKX US licenses page, updated on 15 September 2026, lists a money transmission license or equivalent for each of them, from Alabama to Wisconsin, and marks every one for token to token and USD to token activity. Texas is on the list with Money Transmission License 3574.

The same page names the exclusions in one sentence: OKX INC. "does not provide services to residents of the following states and territories at this time: New York, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands." New York is the only state on that list.

6 states appear on neither list: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. For Massachusetts the OKX US terms of service settle it, because section 20.1.1 tells Massachusetts residents to withdraw digital assets only to a wallet located in the United States, a rule that only makes sense for served customers. For the other 5, OKX publishes no statement either way, so the sign up flow decides: it checks your address and Social Security Number before any trade.

OKX US and okx.com are two different platforms

A US resident on OKX trades with OKX INC., a Delaware corporation, never with the global exchange. The global terms of service split users by residence: people living in one of OKX US's approved locations contract with OKX INC., everyone else with Aux Cayes FinTech Co. Ltd. in the Seychelles. OKX's US disclosure states it plainly: its centralized exchange services, except those offered by OKX US, "are not available in the United States."

The split has a history. On 24 February 2025 Aux Cayes FinTech pleaded guilty in New York to operating an unlicensed money transmitting business and agreed to pay more than 504 million dollars. The Justice Department said OKX had served US customers from about 2018 to at least early 2024 despite its own ban, with over 1 trillion dollars of transactions. Two months later, on 15 April 2025, OKX announced its US exchange and a regional headquarters in San Jose, California.

What can you trade on OKX US?

OKX US is a spot exchange: spot trading plus buy, sell and convert, nothing with leverage. Its risk and compliance disclosure puts the scope in one line: "As of June 2, 2025, OKX US offers spot trading and buy/sell/convert (over-the-counter) services and products to the United States." Futures, perpetual swaps and options, the products OKX is known for globally, are not part of the US offer.

Verification is mandatory before the first trade. OKX US asks for a Social Security Number, a driver's license, state ID or passport, and a selfie, and only then unlocks deposits, trading and withdrawals. That check is also what ties an account to a state, which is why the license list matters more than where your IP address appears to be.

Can you use global OKX from the US with a VPN?

No. A VPN changes your IP address, not your residence, and residence is what OKX's terms and its verification run on. The global platform lists "certain jurisdictions within the United States of America including all U.S. territories" among its Restricted Locations, and OKX routes every approved US resident to OKX INC.

The guilty plea is the clearest warning about what happens next. The Justice Department described an IP block that US customers got around with VPNs, and it was the company that paid for it. An account opened that way carries the same risk on the user side: verification documents that show a US address on a platform that does not serve the United States.

Which OKX you end up on
  1. 1You live in a US state or territory
  2. 2OKX's terms assign you to OKX INC., not the global entity
  3. 3Verification checks your SSN and address against the license list
  4. 4Licensed state: spot account on OKX US. New York or an excluded territory: no account
What a VPN changes

Your IP address. Not your residence, and not the entity your account belongs to.

What OKX US costs compared with global OKX

OKX US charges 0.20% maker and 0.35% taker for a regular user, 2 to 3.5 times the global spot rate. The OKX US fee schedule lowers that to 0.10% and 0.20% at VIP 1, and the top tier reaches a maker rebate. On the global platform the regular spot rate is 0.08% maker and 0.10% taker.

Trade Reclaim's OKX cashback runs on accounts on the global OKX platform: 30% of every fee comes back in USDT, which takes a 0.10% spot taker fee to 0.07%. OKX US accounts are not part of that program. If you live outside the United States, the OKX fee guide has the full schedule and the OKX page shows how the cashback is set up.
